Heiden Orthopedics:
Winning with Gold Medal RCM Automation & Services

Reading the following, you might think it describes an imaginary person:

• He’s a former accomplished road and track cyclist.
• He won five individual (not team) gold medals in speed skating at the 1980 Olympics, which alone was more gold medals than the number won by entire countries’ teams other than the Soviet Union (10) and what at the time was East Germany (9).
• In those games, he set four Olympics and one world record.
• He and his sister created a facility where local children could warm up after skating or playing hockey outdoors.
• In 1991 he graduated from Stanford University Medical School.
• He completed an orthopedics residency at the University of California (Davis). After a fellowship he returned to UC Davis as an assistant professor in orthopedics and opened an orthopedic surgery practice in Sacramento.
• In 1999, he was named a 20th-century Top 50 Athlete in ESPN’s SportsCentury and was inducted into the US Bicycling Hall of Fame for winning the first US Professional Cycling Championship and for his contributions to USA Cycling.
• Not surprisingly, given his background in athletics, he became the team physician for the Sacramento Kings, the Sacramento Monarchs, and covered the US Speed Skating team from 2002 until 2014.
• He relocated to Murray, UT, where he opened and was the Director of Sports Medicine at The Orthopedic Specialty Hospital (TOSH). This eventually expanded into Heiden Orthopedics, which has locations in Park City, Salt Lake City, Draper, and Tooele.

The “he” is not a fictitious character:  He’s Eric Heiden, MD.

Dr. Heiden, renowned for his extensive experience in orthopedic surgery and his winter sports and athletics background, is a perfectionist who doesn't cut corners but does believe in working smarter. Dr. Heiden explained, “Over the years, we had several assorted systems and configurations from different vendors for revenue, billing, EHR, portals, analytics, and scheduling. Tried as we did, we could never achieve that elusive gold medal in automation.”

Our denials have been greatly reduced with proactive denial alerts, and any that weren’t pre-detected are edited and resubmitted by the ADSRCM team within 72 hours,” Dr. Heiden said.
