Once you have determined the type of EHR software that will be the most beneficial to your organization, vendor stability must be taken into account. It cannot be overstated just how important it is to have a vendor that is experienced in medical software and specifically, EHR.
As stated previously, in an EHR “must have” survey dated 7/13 conducted by Healthcare Technology Online, the number one factor in selecting an EHR was not even an EHR feature or capability per se…it was vendor viability!
Vendor stability is also a factor when it comes to staying current with regulatory demands in the medical industry.Signs of vendor stability include such basics as the number of times the vendor’s name has changed over the years, the number of times it was acquired by other vendors, the number of times it “sunsetted” or discontinued any of its products, or simply stopped supporting / updating any of its systems. If they did discontinue a product(s), were the current users given the updated system, or was there a cost?
